What? Do you think most of Caren's readers give a flying flip about the citizens of a district ELECTING someone to Congress? No, they don't. That's especially true if that someone has thoughts and beliefs with which they do not agree. If belief in, commenting on, liking on social media, and giving interviews about something that's "offensive, "ludicrous", or "ridiculous" are reasons to be stripped of committee assignments, how many of the current crop of Democrats could say they never did those things when it came to the Russian Collusion Delusion? How about if it's about Republicans wanting to end Social Security and/or Medicare? How about if it's about Republicans not caring when school children, caught up in a gun free zone, get shot? How about if it's about Republicans wanting to "put y'all back in chains" as asserted by candidate Joe Biden when running for VP?
Caren frequently provides "supporting" links to her assertions. But, what I find is that few of her commenters actually visit them to CONFIRM whether they do or do not support her assertions. If people did review those allegedly supportive links, they would know that MTG's most outrageous comments and "likes" Democrats used to support the committee stripping occurred BEFORE she was elected to Congress. A big deal is made about the fact MTG has never "apologized" for her remarks. Have ANY Democrats ever apologized for the "offensive", "ludicrous", and "ridiculous" things they said about President Trump? No, I don't believe a single one has. Maxine Waters never apologized for calling for violence against members of the Trump Administration. Oh, it wasn't threats of "real" violence, I'm sure they'll say. But, would a Republican be given the "benefit of the doubt" if they called for members of the Biden Administration to be confronted and "pushed back" against even in public places by citizens? No, they wouldn't.
Even if she did apologize, Democrats and the media would never be satisfied. If Democrats express regret one time, it's to be accepted as truthful, sincere, and final, according to the Left and their media supporters. Republicans must apologize repeatedly, whenever asked, and with the words and in the manner demanded of them by Democrats and their media sycophants, or said apology will not be believed.
Caren's "supporting" links note that the actions taken by Democrats are unprecedented in the modern Congress. This from the Party who claims it's Republicans who violate established norms.
As with Harry Reid and the "nuclear option", Democrats may live to regret their norm-busting. While MTG has at least some plausible deniability that the managers of her social media accounts were responsible for "liking" most of the things for which Democrats stripped her of her committee assignments, Republicans will have "first-person receipts" for the things Democrats said about President Trump, Republicans, and Republican voters. For, if the Majority can negate the Minority Party's right to make committee assignments based on things "liked" or written BEFORE a member is elected to Congress, surely Democrats won't be able to complain when Republicans do the same for things Democrats did after being elected.
But, of course, believing they shouldn't be held accountable and not understanding irony, they will.
This comment is not meant to construe that I believe in or support the actions attributed to MTG. But, neither do I think it's American to claim I believe in democracy (like I assume Caren and most of her readers would) while emphatically wondering why an individual duly elected to Congress who hasn't been indicted for or convicted of any crimes in a court of law before or since being elected should still be in Congress. It's as if they think Medium readers should have the authority to arbitrarily "remove" Congress Critters they don't like rather than the citizens who elected those Representatives doing so through a legally prescribed process if THEY decide such an action is warranted.
Given that MTG was reelected and the citizens of her district have taken no action since to change that, I guess the people that really matter have spoken. Democracy in action.
