Upfront let me write that I agree with you that VP Harris won the debate. It wasn't hard given most of the questions and her moderator allies. But I disagree with much of the rest of your article.
If you accept moderators David Muir and Lindsey Davis had a role of "fact checker" to play, explain why there was no fact checking of VP Harris despite her MANY and easily provable lies.
No pushback on "fine people on both sides in Charlottesville" lie.
No pushback on claims "officers died" on 6 January 2021.
No pushback on claims insinuating violence because "Trump said there would be a bloodbath if he doesn't get elected" (and to what bloodbath referred).
No pushback on it being "well-known he wants to be a dictator on day one" (and to what he said being a dictator about and why).
No pushback on claims of "increased manufacturing jobs and job increases in general" being the result of Americans returning to work after Democrats insisted they stay home due to the pandemic and not a result of pro job-growth policies of the Biden-Harris Administration. Nor was there highlighting of the repeated overstating of jobs gained by the Biden-Harris Administration including overstating by 880,000 jobs in the last report.
No pushback on Harris' claims she supports the US military despite Gold Star Families who lost loved ones during the Biden-Harris Afghanistan withdrawal debacle stating they have received no calls and no personal condolences from VP Harris nor any apologies from her boss for also repeatedly checking his watch during the Dignified Transfer of Remains Ceremony at Dover AFB.
No pushback on Biden-Harris policies increasing inflation and significantly increasing the debt.
No pushback on VP Harris' claims existing Trump tax cuts and proposed tax cuts are "mostly for billionaires".
Besides there being no pushback on these items, the choice of questions seemed to be right from the Democrat National Convention platform. There were few if any questions about VP Harris' historical out-of-the-mainstream positions and her sudden "moderation" of those beliefs. There was also no "redirection" when she failed to answer the question (e.g. Are people better off now than they were four years ago).
There were also no questions about VP Harris' support for bailing out arsonists and assaulters during Democrat-enabled riots that destroyed businesses (especially POC-owned businesses and homes) after the death of fentanyl abuser, George Floyd.
There were also no questions to VP Harris about why car manufacturers lost BILLIONS OF DOLLARS due to the push by the Biden-Harris Administration to build EVs despite most of the sane public rejecting the mandate.
There were no questions whether VP Harris believes illegal aliens should have the right to vote and whether she supports the SAVE Act, now being debated in Congress, that requires PROOF of citizenship to vote.
There were no questions for VP Harris about whether she thinks illegal aliens who commit crimes should be removed from the United States.
There were no questions for VP Harris whether she supports school choice which would allow students to escape failing government schools (primarily students of color) and the indoctrination of Teacher's Union members beholden to the Democrat Party?
I submit, Presidential Debate Moderators, when we are down to two candidates, should strive to prepare questions the American people want answered by their prospective next President. The questions should be relatively evenly split addressing policies preferred by both candidates to elicit whether the other candidate has similar ideas or proposes a completely different policy and why.
After voicing the question, moderators should shut up and get out of the way. Follow-up questions, based on the answers given, would be appropriate. So-called "fact checking" (especially when it's done incorrectly like by Muir and Davis) should never be appropriate.
Muir and Davis were BLATANTLY biased and have put at risk future presidential debates. Given that 90% of the media is left-leaning and Democrat-supporting, there's no reason a future Republican candidate would agree to be publicly flogged by leftist moderators.
