Okay, I read the Censure Resolution and I agree the resolution refers to “ordinary citizens engaged in legitimate political discourse” and not some group of Republican Representatives in Florida that day.
But, your readers are “not in your head”. It may have been your intent to point out the Censure Resolution was not about Republicans in Florida; but, the “glaring” problem you highlighted with the Leader McCarthy quote included in your article was that the “6 RNC Members who were supposedly in Florida… remain unidentified”.
To clarify what RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel referred to as media distortions of the Censure Resolution, the RNC issued a press release reiterating their condemnation of those who broke the law January 6.
The press release notes a belief that the January 6 Committee has “vastly exceeded its original purpose and morphed into something else entirely, investigating Republicans who had nothing to do with January 6”. It also highlights that “Last month, reports showed that 90% of the committee’s subpoenas have been delivered to people who weren’t even at the Capitol on January 6th.”
It goes on to state “This includes individuals like one of the RNC’s members who was subpoenaed because, weeks before January 6th, she served as an alternate elector pending the outcome of ongoing lawsuits — an action with clear legal precedent which Democrats themselves have done in the past.”
I will admit I have not confirmed her assertion that Democrats have had people serve as “alternate electors” in past elections.
Those subpoenas for folks not even at the Capitol January 6 is the “legitimate political discourse” being attacked by Democrats and the Censure Resolution makes clear Representatives Cheney and Kinzinger’s participation in that activity is one reason the Censure Resolution was brought.
