It took about 15 minutes of research to debunk this fear porn.
As indicated in the article, this bill has only just been introduced. It’s not even out of Committee yet. Any and all details are subject to amendments and, even if it passed out of Committee and the full House, 60 votes are still required in the Senate for it to pass cloture and come up for a vote.
Be that as it may, one has to ignore the current text of the bill to buy into this article’s baloney.
To wit:
This occurs within the first four paragraphs of the draft bill:
“(b) Documentary proof of United States citizenship.—As used in this Act, the term ‘documentary proof of United States citizenship’ means, with respect to an applicant for voter registration, any of the following:
“(1) A form of identification issued consistent with the requirements of the REAL ID Act Of 2005 [emphasis added] that indicates the applicant is a citizen of the United States.
What is the REAL ID Act of 2005?
“The REAL ID Act, passed by Congress in 2005, enacted the 9/11 Commission’s recommendation that the Federal Government ‘set standards for the issuance of sources of identification, such as driver's licenses and identification cards’.”
As indicated in the link below, the Act became part of Public Law 109-13.

So finally, what does PL 109-13 say about required documentation to get a federally approved ID indicating the individual is a US citizen:
Page 83 of PL 109-13
“(c) MINIMUM ISSUANCE STANDARDS.—
(1) IN GENERAL.—To meet the requirements of this section, a State shall require, at a minimum, presentation and verification of the following information before issuing a driver’s license or identification card to a person:
(A) A photo identity document, except that a non-photo identity document is acceptable if it includes both the person’s full legal name and date of birth.
(B) Documentation showing the person’s date of birth.
(C) PROOF OF THE PERSON’S SOCIAL SECURITY ACCOUNT NUMBER OR VERIFICATION THAT THE PERSON IS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR A SOCIAL SECURITY ACCOUNT NUMBER [emphasis mine].
Married/single/maiden name/married name – ladies can present their Social Security Card to get ID that will qualify them to vote. Other acceptable proof of SSN would be copies of tax returns filed as married filing jointly or filing as an individual.
Other things requiring a proof of SSN:
Getting a job
Opening a bank account
Applying for a loan
Claiming government benefits
So, how many ladies out there, married or not, are US citizens without proof of their SSN?
The number is pretty minuscule, I imagine.
But, don’t let facts get in the way of your fear porn.
